There's Nothing Like Australia

It is no secret that pre 2000, I had no desire to visit Australia.  It was as I watched the Land Down Under ring in the new millennium that the country became a blip on my radar.  At first I envisioned NYE at the Opera House, but as Europe became mundane in my eyes I started to dream of life in a distant, exotic land.  Then my dream came true.  In just two years Australia has exceeded my expectations and it never ceases to surprise me.  It has gone from a distant remote dusty corner of the world to a place I believe everyone should visit.
Tourism Australia also feels the world should visit their lovely continent and they have just unveiled a new international ad.  According to discussions I have seen on Facebook, Blogs, and in the media it seems like the campaign may not be as successful as it creators had hoped.
Personally I find the song a bit annoying, but in my eyes the visual images manage to capture the depth of what Australia has to offer.  The ad makes me want to hit the road and see all that is out there.  How about you?  Does the following video put Australia on your bucket list?

  1. Hi Maya, that's a really cool video. I know what you mean about the song. :) The images like you said are so wonderful. Thanks to you, Australia is definitely moving up on my must see list. It's too bad the campaign isn't catching on. Interestingly, Scotland did a similar campaign last year when they launched a 250th Anniversary Comming Home worldwide campaign to celebrate Robert Burn's birthday. And from what I read they were successful and it gave a boost to tourism there. It wasn't the sole reason for me going but it did sweeten the deal. Hopefully australia's campaign will pick up and produce more interest, because like you said I think we should all experience this wonderful country. And I think Australians are some of the friendliest people that I have met during my travels. I wish them luck.

  2. I entered this site by chance, but I found very interesting. A greeting to all the people who visit this page.

  3. Hi Kathy, I really hope you make it to Australia one of these days. If you are Down Under while we are here you will have a personal tour guide in Adelaide--if your willing to walk a lot ;-) I've actually talked to several people who don't live in Australia who like the ad. I was re-watching it night before last and realized that in the picture in the car the driver is sitting on the wrong side.
Well, I am off to the Northern Territory for about 10 days. I have posts coming up, but due to being in isolated I won't be commenting for about the next 10 days. Talk to you then.

    Baresytapas, thanks for stopping in.

  4. I think the ad is awful. They say Koala bear so that it rhymes and then the guy comes up and says it's not a bear but he doesn't say it very loud. It undoes years of educating people that Koalas aren't bears. I also wasn't happy with the girl holding the platypus. I hope people don't come to this country, expecting to be able to do something like that. There's no way it would have been a male one or she would have been very sick.
