Bubble Bean

This week's PhotoHunt theme is bubbles.

It is not uncommon to come across these transparent bubbles on the beaches of Holdfast Bay.  I don't think they are jellyfish, but I think they maybe some kind of egg.  I've never seen anyone else give them much attention.  Do you know what they are?

  1. My first thought upon seeing it was: a kidney shaped bubble! My second: it must be a jellyfish. So, sorry, am stumped if that's not the case!

  2. Hi Maya, that's a great photo and your bubble bean is a cool take on the theme. I'm not sure what that is, but I'd agree with YTSL about it being kidney bean shaped. :) The things that wash up on shore can be so interesting...

    Have a great weekend.

  4. Hi YTSL, still no idea what it is. I guess next time I come across them on the beach I'll ask a local.

Hi Kathy, it is true that lots of interesting things wash up on the shore. I was going to go with a bubbly more like in your post, but decided to try something different.

Hi Marta, hopefully someday I will figure what they are and I'll let you know.

  5. They are the egg sacks of sand snails. Either Moon Snail (Polinices sordidus) or Cone Snail (Polinices conicus)
