This week's PhotoHunt theme is closed.
Cook is an outback town that was built in 1917 to help support the Trans-Australian Railway from Adelaide to Perth. The small community included a tennis club, golf course and swimming pool for the local residents. In 1997 when the railways were privatized the new owners decided they no longer needed a support town in the middle of the Nullarbor and the town was essentially closed down. Today, Cook is said to have a population of four, and is essentially a ghost town.
I couldn't get the photo to load but I'll try later. That's sad when towns are closed because of transportation issues.
ReplyDeleteNo photo for me either Maya.
ReplyDeleteSame here, Maya. Did you import the photo from Flickr by any chance? Used to have this problem with some of tnchick's photos because of this... :S
ReplyDeleteNo photo... but enjoyed the story. I'll come back later..
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to see the ghost town...there is some technical problem, though.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend! closed
Sorry everyone. It was showing on my computer, but I guess not anyone else's. I reloaded it and was able to see it on my husband's computer, so hopefully you will be able to see it as well.

Hi again Maya --
ReplyDeleteYay, I can see the photo now! And what an interesting story to go with it. :)
I can see the photo.
ReplyDeleteOnly 4 people in a town!? They have everything to themselves then!
I can see the photo too! Great pic for the theme :)
ReplyDeleteHi Maya, I visited earlier and couldn't see the photo too, I'm glad to see it now although it is kind of sad to hear about the closing of this town. I couldn't live in a town with only 4 people...but everyone is different. At least with their presence, the town still lives on.
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying your weekend.
A great place to go to get away from it all - population of 4 - not much nightlife then!
